Hair experiments (40's to 80's!)

Classic lazy hair day solution, 50's scarf and a swirl.

I've been really into 80's fashion, music and hairstyles lately.. We had a roof top photo shot with one of my favourite photographers Jirina Alanko (oh, she has a new website, check it out: www.jirinaalanko.com ) and i was wearing a fabulous 80's overall and Miia Magia Design mirror necklace.

One of my favourite styles, voluminous curls!

Scarfs are a very good idea when having a lazy hair day!

In the Bladerunner mood, inspired by Rachels and Carmens hairdos.

Inspiration for my new hair

One night i got this idea... i wanted to dye my hair. I wanted it to be crazy, like it was when i was a teen. So, now it's blue/green/orange/violet. I love it! I have to go back to red soon because of a modeling job, but untill then i'm enjoying this crazyness!

This was my number one inspirational pic for my new hair! Carina nebula.
Inspiration number two, blue and mint green early morning sky through the train window somewhere in Finland.

Purple hair

Vivienne Westwood Red Label Spring/Summer 2013

Purple-haired Copacabana chorus girls c. 1955
Did they really have purple hair or is this photo just colored that way?
I wanna dye my hair purple again.

The perfect red

I just found this pic from last year. I'm having a break from a photo shoot and reading a magazine. My hair...that shade is perfect! I still haven't found the PERFECT henna to gain that result.

Dyeing to get the perfect red

I was dj'ing a week ago @FLIRT!, a party that combines burlesque and dance music. I was playing electro swing, but there were also house, indie and disco dj's that night. And the combination worked! We had a fun night...

That wonderful vintage blouse i found while dumpster diving. It amazes me what people throw away.
The black leather pencil skirt is a fleamarket find.

By the way, how do you like my hair colour? I've stopped using strong chemicals and started to use natural henna ( i used MacUrths henna but next time i might try something else). That shade of red is just what i wanted! I still have to practise a bit more to get the best result, but for the first time i think i did a pretty good job. I've stopped dyeing my hair nearly 3 months ago before my first henna experiment. (You can imagine how my hair looked with dark roots.. :D)

This picture below shows my natural hair colour. I'm 15 in this photo.

From left: Leena (my mothers cousin), Me and Maija (my cousin). You've seen Maija here before :)

The main reasons for me to stop dyeing my hair were the health risks.
(Research in Sweden suggested that chemicals found in colouring products might damage the immune system, triggering rheumatoid arthritis. Some chemicals have already been shown to cause bladder cancer. Source)

As you can see, my hair is not always in perfect order...haha! Dancing leads to messy hair, and sometimes to something else too...
That hat is, ofcourse, a Fiona Timantti creation.

Inspiration, The wonderful Maila Nurmi, a.k.a. Vampira

One of my favourite photos of Maila.
On the set 1954

She had many different looks and she was much more than "just" the raven haired tv show hostess.

Look at that hair! In 1955!

Faking it!

I used to have Bettie style bangs for years (and black hair too...) but nowadays i want to try out so many different hairdos and styles that bangs would only be in the way and limit the possibilities. I think i have found the perfect solution! Fake, clip-on bangs! We've seen them on celebrities like Beyoncé (damn she looks good with bangs!).
Some say it's lame and fake, but i say bah! Wigs and hairpieces have been around for ages! The ancient Egyptians had some very fine wigs for example.

Flamboyant 18th century wigs. You just gotta love those crazy hairdos! Though these are only drawings...

These hairpieces are from 1925 (Marshall and Snelgrove).

Here's my new clip-on bangs (haven't cut them yet, so they are a bit too long)! They are made of human hair, so they can be dyed, curled and washed. You can easily get fake bangs online, i got mine from Cybershop. It's very easy to use!

Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel Cruise Collection 2010

Karl Lagerfeld and I have similar taste (this year anyway..) when it comes to hair.. :D

Oh my! I really like this outfit!

Just hanging out with my cats, drinking tea and watching movies. What an exciting day..

This is how my hair looks like if i just wash it and let it dry.

My collection of perfumes.

Cecil and his new favourite place.

One of the movies today was Martin Scorsese's 'The Aviator'. I'm not a huge Leonardo DiCaprio fan, but in this movie he is doing a very good job as the eccenric Howard Hughes.
And what about those shoes, dresses and hats!?

I so wanna have shoes like that! Those colours are crazy!

Simply stunning shoes!

Kate Beckinsale as Ava Gardner. A bit too high for my taste, but still, what a hat!

I really like blouses with sleeves like that.

That blue combined to brown, just perfect. The costume designer for this movie was Sandy Powell. She's made lots of good movies like Gangs of New York, Interview With The Vampire, Orlando, Velvet Goldmine and Far From Heaven. It would be great to work with someone like her...
Gwen is stunning, as always. Though i don't see a remarkable resemblance between her and Jean Harlow...

Cate Blanchett is a marvelous actress and she is the perfect choice for the role of the legendary Katharine Hepburn.
