Cool pics of Helsinki today and how it used to look about 100 years ago

My friend showed me these photos of Helsinki. It's fun (sometimes sad when there has been some beautiful buildings torn down) to see how it used to look where i live. I found two pics from my naigbourhood.

Inspiration, The wonderful Maila Nurmi, a.k.a. Vampira

One of my favourite photos of Maila.
On the set 1954

She had many different looks and she was much more than "just" the raven haired tv show hostess.

The Mystic, by Bernard of Hollywood

Look at that hair! In 1955!

At home with one of her cats, 1955

Photos of strangers

I sometimes buy old photos from second hand shops and thrift stores. I usually buy pictures of everyday life, to see what people were really wearing. I also like photos of costume parties and photos that were taken without posing too much or failed photos where someone wasn't standing still etc.
But this photo i bought because he is gorgeous. Those eyes are mesmerizing! I wonder who he was.
He reminds me of someone i've met.
Another picture of the same guy.

This is someone else. Maybe i've posted this pic before?

Felix the cat and Ann Pennington, The Black bottom dance

January 1927 issue of Photoplay, Ann Pennington teaching Felix do the “Black bottom dance”.

I would love to wear something like that to my dance lessons, but i think it might be "too much". ?
Even though "it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring", like Marilyn said.

For the Love of Opera Gloves!

I found this new website today, called "For the Love of Opera Gloves!". Interesting site, not really pretty or easy to use, but oh gee, i've never seen that many pictures of opera gloves! I think this page is for the people who really love opera glover, but even if you are not crazy about them, this is a very interesting site to visit. There are some new pictures too (for example photos of 90's supermodels wearing opera gloves, though Suzy Parker's there too..) but also lots of older photos. Here are some of my favourite pics. Look at those hats!

I think i love everything about this photo. The gloves, the hat, the dress..and this lady is beautiful in very unique way.

"Too much? No? Good."

Lovely gloves and jewellery.

This hat makes me smile!

Yes, the hats and the gloves...but look at those shoes!
If i had the money, i would start making shoes right now! Fiona Timantti Shoes?

Fashion from 1938 and other stuff

Few flea market finds...
Fashion from Paris and Helsinki, Kotiliesi magazine august 1938.

The coat on the right is by Sciaparelli.

I love old photos. Here's few i found today.

Guys looking smart 1938

Gals out and about.

As you may know, i love old paperbacks. This one is from the fifties.

Death on the Nile, 1937.

Here's another nice paperback. This was not a flea market find, but a treasure i found while dumpster diving.
The Deadly Truth, 1941. This one is from 1943 and the authors name is written wrong! It should be McCloy, not McGloy. Cover art by Eeli Jaatinen.
