Teacher Style day 46, new coat is about the get a makeover

Todays outfit all vintage and second hand. But what's more interesting is the new coat i've got. It was on it's way to trash when i saved it. I was thinking about giving it a proper makeover. A 1930's style collar! But instead of fur i was thining about using knitted fabric.
Here's my inspiration:

Teacher Style day 15

Hat - vintage
Woolen jumper - wonderful 1940's vintage jumper! Found dumpster diving. The original blue collar was made of silk and it was in very bad shape so i had to make a new one. I found cotton fabric that was just the same colour as the original.
Skirt - second hand

My style in Elle Magazine

Elle Finland asked me to show them some of my favourite pieces from my wardrobe.

I like to keep my make-up simple. Left daytime, right evening look.
My daytime make-up is just foundation, eyeliner, eyebrow pencil and red lipstick.

They put me next to a very funny Jean Paul Gaultier ad! :D

Dyeing to get the perfect red

I was dj'ing a week ago @FLIRT!, a party that combines burlesque and dance music. I was playing electro swing, but there were also house, indie and disco dj's that night. And the combination worked! We had a fun night...

That wonderful vintage blouse i found while dumpster diving. It amazes me what people throw away.
The black leather pencil skirt is a fleamarket find.

By the way, how do you like my hair colour? I've stopped using strong chemicals and started to use natural henna ( i used MacUrths henna but next time i might try something else). That shade of red is just what i wanted! I still have to practise a bit more to get the best result, but for the first time i think i did a pretty good job. I've stopped dyeing my hair nearly 3 months ago before my first henna experiment. (You can imagine how my hair looked with dark roots.. :D)

This picture below shows my natural hair colour. I'm 15 in this photo.

From left: Leena (my mothers cousin), Me and Maija (my cousin). You've seen Maija here before :)

The main reasons for me to stop dyeing my hair were the health risks.
(Research in Sweden suggested that chemicals found in colouring products might damage the immune system, triggering rheumatoid arthritis. Some chemicals have already been shown to cause bladder cancer. Source)

As you can see, my hair is not always in perfect order...haha! Dancing leads to messy hair, and sometimes to something else too...
That hat is, ofcourse, a Fiona Timantti creation.

My cats are gonna be on tv (and me too)

I was happy to be asked to be a part of a new tv series about blogs and bloggers. It's called Blogistania and it will bw out next month!

The camera crew came to my home and to my atelier. It was a bit stressful, since my home is a very private place to me... My cats Bix and Cecil are in almost every frame, i'm sure. My little tv-stars! They were very exited.

On the street where i live. I'm wearing self made capelet and hat.

 Waiting...

At my atelier with friends, Miia Magia and Bettie Blackheart

This marvelous 30's dress is one of the dresses i found while dumpster diving a while ago. I told you about it in this post, remember? I'll post pictures of other dresses i found later, when i'm wearing them. Ofcourse not all of them were my size, some of them i gave away or sold.

Sunday, Hat Club, museum, dumpster diving

I'm wearing:
Vintage hat
vintage sweater
second hand skirt
50s handbag

This month our Hat Club went to the National Museum of Finland.
The exhibition "Faithful friends-Royal dogs and horses"was lots of fun! You know the kind of exhibitions that are for the whole family, where you can do things, not just look at things. There were pieces of a knights armor you could try on...
..and historical riding costumes! I also tried out the saddle for ladies.

 A funny tall-case clock
You might think these are some old Chinese works of art, but they are from Finland..

Chandelier in the Lutheran church exhibition

 Madonna

 Marvelous

And yes, dumpster diving!  Here's just some of the clothes after washing. We made really great finds! We had bags filled with 20s-30s-40s dresses, coats, suits, hats... An old (about 90-years old) lady died and they emptied the cellar. And all those wondeful dresses were about to go to the dump!
I have beautiful dresses for next summer, 40s beach wear and amazing 30s evening gowns. I'l be posting pics later...

Dumpster diving

Yes, that's right. Dumpster diving. Some people may think that it's not cool or not very lady like.
I think it's very uncool to throw away perfectly useful stuff! Like books! Goddammit, people! Don't throw away books!

Yes, i do it wearing high heels.

I LOVE 30's and 40's paperback covers. I found several books to add to my collection!

I also found 50's handbag, an old suitcase, and poems someone wrote in the 30's and 4o's.
