My birthday is 26th of november, and when i went to work that day, there was a surprise waiting for me! Cake, champagne, presents!

I'm working in Atelje Teatro at the moment, and i like it! We're making ballet costumes for the national opera. I really needed a break from my hat business.. Ofcourse i'm making hats too, but not full time. I'll be back in my own atelier next month.

This picture was taken that morning, we had breakfast in Hotel Kämp.

And i have new glasses! I won them in a competition by Lensway. What do you think? They are quite different from the other ones i have.

I sometimes buy old photos from second hand shops and thrift stores. I usually buy pictures of everyday life, to see what people were really wearing. I also like photos of costume parties and photos that were taken without posing too much or failed photos where someone wasn't standing still etc.

But this photo i bought because he is gorgeous. Those eyes are mesmerizing! I wonder who he was.

He reminds me of someone i've met.

Few weeks ago (i think all my posts start "Few weeks ago.." i never seem to have enough time to update my blog..) i attended the annual ELLE Style Awards.

I was wearing a stunning Minna Hepburn dress, the "Elsie"! I absolutely adore it! So 30s but still very "today". It's made of fine wool fabric and has lovely lace details on the sleeves. And it's hand made in England. AND Minna was rewarded that night for her efforts to create ethical fashion, yay!

And the shoes..! I fell in love when i saw these Beyond Skin beauties in a webshop kenkalaatikko.fi

This month our Hat Club went to the National Museum of Finland.

The exhibition "Faithful friends-Royal dogs and horses"was lots of fun! You know the kind of exhibitions that are for the whole family, where you can do things, not just look at things. There were pieces of a knights armor you could try on...

..and historical riding costumes! I also tried out the saddle for ladies.

And yes, dumpster diving! Here's just some of the clothes after washing. We made really great finds! We had bags filled with 20s-30s-40s dresses, coats, suits, hats... An old (about 90-years old) lady died and they emptied the cellar. And all those wondeful dresses were about to go to the dump!

I have beautiful dresses for next summer, 40s beach wear and amazing 30s evening gowns. I'l be posting pics later...

I love halloween. I'm very inspired by old horror movies, vintage halloween pin-ups and vampire stories ( no, i still haven't seen Twilight..). This year i'm olso very inspired by 80s/90s horror movies (and horror comedy, oh my..). I have to watch these movies again.

If i have time, i will be making a huge lace headpiece that is a mixture of Lucy's headpiece in Dracula and the spanish mourning veil.

Diamond Stash Speakeasy 2!

Few weeks ago it was time for Ravintolapäivä once again. I was hosting a cocktail party"Diamond Stash Speakeasy" at my atelier. I was so glad that so many people came, especially many of my dear friends and customers. Unfortunately i didn't really have time to chat because i was mixing drinks all the time...

That black wig is my favourite. The beaded dress is from Ansa and earrings by Tyra Therman.

It was fun to let people try on my hats and tell them about Maria (the founder of the place) and her work.

Some of the guests even danced. I was playing jazz, swing, little bit of electro swing etc.

Cointreau was a smash hit! Just like last time.

And my friend Allu was kind enough to come and make me a "Fiona Timantti" drink!

For a Fiona Timantti you'll need:

2 cl Cointreau

1 cl Bols Melon

1 cl Rémy Martin Coeur de Cognac

1,5 cl lime juice

1 cl sugar syrup

1/3 vanilla stick (decoration)

Shake and strain into a martini glass and decorate with the vanilla stick.

Berlin, a very much needed getaway

We had a four day holiday in Berlin. I really needed a break from work. We were staying at this wonderful hotel Michelberger. Our room was cosy, breakfast was amazing and the staff super friendly. The picture above is from the reception of the hotel.

I really like sushi. We ordered the "surprise plate".

This cute tiger painting came home with me! It's a copy of the painting "Tiger"(1912) by Franz Marc.

They were showing all the Chaplin movies in a movie theatre Babylon. We were lucky enough to get tickets to see "The Circus"(1928).

The Theatre is beautiful, the movie was funny and the tickets were not expensive and the audience was thrilled. Only not so nice thing about that evening was one very rude doorman..I went to ask about the location of the toilets and i was very polite, as i always try to be. He said "Upstairs. But you can't come here and ask 'where's the toilets' (he was mocking me, "imitating" my voice) in english. You are in Germany, you have to say it in german!" He thought i was American (for some europeans that seems to be a reason to be rude).

I've studied german in school, so maybe i could have said it in german. I wanted to ask him if i could expect the same from him, when he maybe comes to visit my home country someday. Welcome to Finland, jerk!

Outside the Neues museum. I finally got to see Nefertiti! I've been to Berlin five times and never had the chance to go see her. It was forbidden to take photos in her room, so no photos...

I was in Paris few months ago for the opening party of the Putiikki Pop-up Shop. I love cities like Paris, London and NY, because they are full on details. Strange/funny/beautiful little (sometimes not so little..) things. It's like a treasure hunt that never ends. Finding cool, inspirational stuff.

Jerry Leiber, who with songwriting partner Mike Stoller helped forge entire chapters in the early history of rock and roll, has died at the age of 78.
For The Coasters they wrote "Charlie Brown," "Searchin'," "Yakety Yak," "Young Blood" and "Poison Ivy."
They penned "Stand By Me" and "Spanish Harlem" for Ben E. King, and "On Broadway" and "There Goes My Baby" for The Drifters. They also scored hits for Peggy Lee ("Is That All There Is?" and "I'm a Woman"), LaVern Baker ("Saved") and The Clovers ("Love Potion #9"), among others.

I love the green colour of the "Fiona Timantti" drink!

"Sounds too good to be true!" That's what i first thought when i heard about this opportunity Cointreau was about to offer us (me, Bettie B. and Kiki H. from Helsinki Burlesque). They were gonna give us our own drinks! Yes, even though i'm pretty much a total "nobody" in this big world, i have my own drink, haha! And i love Cointreau!

Tomorrow we are having this Ravintolapäivä (restaurant day) here in Helsinki and i'm hosting my Diamond Stash Speakeasy again. So if you are in Helsinki area, come join us! Last time i had hundreds of guests.. Come, Drink Me!
